Grounded
Gulls soar where I stand
Toeing the boundary of sea and sand,
A boundary no less absolute
For being always in dispute.
No less absolute the span
That separates the boy from man:
Though youthful memories implore,
I am earthbound evermore.
Amidst the tidal ebb and flow
I wait for my desires to go,
And come into a peace preferred
To soarings of a raucous bird.
